Scattered thunderstorms capable of producing damaging winds and hail are expected Monday night in the Chicago area, according to the National Weather Service.

The storms, which are predicted to occur between 7 p.m. and midnight, primarily pose risks of heavy downpours and ground to cloud lightning. However, some storms may become more severe earlier in the evening, bringing hail large enough to dent cars and siding.

The Chicago Cubs announced its game against the Cincinnati Reds will begin at 6:10 p.m. instead of 6:40 p.m. due to forecasted inclement weather.

Strong southwest winds and dry conditions are expected to contribute to blowing dust in agricultural areas south of Chicago. In communities near and south of Interstate 80, the strong winds and low humidity could also lead to an elevated fire spread risk.

Following Monday’s 80-degree forecasted high, cooler days are expected to return to Chicago later this week.
