BEIDELMAN FAMILY SMART TO LANDMARK BUILDING

We are all sad to see Beidelman Furniture close its doors. The store has been beloved by Naperville residents for almost a century. We are truly grateful that in 2024, the Beidelman family had the foresight to get local landmark status for this iconic building.

Think of the possibilities for the building! Many historic buildings in Naperville have been redeveloped for new and profitable second (or third) lives. Old Nichols Library is now the home of the wildly successful Gia Mia restaurant. The Kroehler furniture factory has been 5th Avenue Station for decades. And the beautiful Willard Scott House is now home to The Ville Realtors.

Hopefully the Beidelman Furniture building will have a similarly successful future. A practicing architect has already developed a concept for how the windows and roofline details could be restored to return the building to its original glory.

Naperville Preservation looks forward to working cooperatively with the building’s new owners to give this piece of Naperville history a new life.

LET’S APPLY COMMON SENSE TO SOCIAL SECURITY

I have heard for years how the politicians will cut back taxes on the middle classes and tax the wealthy more. BS! The politicians get wealthier and join the Richie Rich Club.

We keep hearing about common sense but no one applies it. If everyone paid 5% of their gross earnings, Social Security would last forever.

Secretaries are paying the same amount into Social Security as their bosses. Is that common sense?
