First Lady Melania Trump trashed late night host Jimmy Kimmel on Monday for mocking her as an “expectant widow” just two days before the White House Correspondents’ Dinner was marred by a shooting attack.
Melania Trump called on ABC to take unspecified action to punish the funny man for the tasteless remark, even though it was clearly aimed at President Trump’s age and not related in any way to the apparent assassination attempt at the gala dinner.
“It is time for ABC to take a stand,” the first lady tweeted. “How many times will ABC’s leadership enable Kimmel’s atrocious behavior?”
Branding Kimmel a “coward,” she said he “shouldn’t have the opportunity to enter our homes each evening to spread hate.”
“Kimmel’s hateful and violent rhetoric is intended to divide our country,” Melania Trump tweeted. “His monologue about my family isn’t comedy — his words are corrosive and deepens the political sickness within America.”
Neither ABC nor Kimmel immediately commented.
President Trump also hasn’t said anything about Kimmel’s quip.
Melania Trump, who spends most of her time in New York, usually keeps a fairly low public profile. But she recently raised eyebrows with an odd White House speech in which she denies any ties to Jeffrey Epstein or his infamous sex trafficking scheme.
Kimmel delivered the jokes about the first lady at a special version of his show that included his version of a fake monologue for the WHCD. It aired Thursday night, about 48 hours before the shooting attack.
“Our first lady, Melania, is here. Look at Melania, so beautiful,” he said. “Mrs. Trump, you have a glow like an expectant widow.”
The host also poked fun at the Trumps’ living separately despite being married for 22 years.
“Oh, by the way, Melania, this is Donald,” he quipped. “Donald, this is Melania.”
The criticism by Melania Trump marks the latest political controversy for Kimmel.
ABC temporarily pulled Kimmel’s show off the air last September 2025 over comments he made about the shooting death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
When he returned to the air days later, Kimmel said he didn’t intend “to make light of the murder.”
