Chicago White Sox catcher Kyle Teel is dealing with right knee soreness, manager Will Venable said before Sunday’s City Series game against the Cubs at Rate Field.
The situation popped up for Teel during Saturday’s game while playing for Triple-A Charlotte, where he’s on an injury rehab assignment working his way back from a right hamstring strain.
“On his last at-bat, did a little something to his knee,” Venable said. “There’s some knee soreness in there that will probably slow him down for a little bit.
“He’ll go through and get all evaluated further (Sunday).”
Venable said Teel’s “cleat got caught in the swing.”
Teel has yet to play in the regular season this year after suffering the hamstring injury on March 10 while running out a double during a World Baseball Classic game with Italy.
Teel slashed .273/.375/.411 with 11 doubles, eight home runs and 35 RBIs in 78 games with the Sox in 2025.
“It would be premature to get too down the road on where we’re at or evaluate the concern for it,” Venable said. “We just want to figure out what is going on there and evaluate where’s he’s at, see how he responded to the treatment from last night and go from there.”
In more injury news, Sox pitcher Prelander Berroa has been returned from his rehab assignment because of right elbow inflammation. The right-hander, who missed last season after undergoing Tommy John surgery, exited his first outing for the Arizona Complex League White Sox on May 13.
Sox outfielder Austin Hays (left calf strain) is expected to begin a rehab assignment with Charlotte on Tuesday.
