The Smashing Pumpkins announced a fall tour on Monday that includes a stop in Chicago in October.
“The Rats in a Cage Tour,” with a name borrowed from the band’s 1995 song “Bullet with Butterfly Wings,” will play the United Center on Oct. 14.
Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. May 19 in Citi and Verizon presales, followed by a fan club presale at 9 a.m. May 20; register at store.smashingpumpkins.com. The general public sale begins at 10 a.m. May 21 at smashingpumpkins.com.
According to the announcement, concerts on the tour will have two sets — one devoted to the 1995 double album “Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness,” the second concentrating on the band’s decades of hit songs.
The hometown band Smashing Pumpkins also is headlining Lollapalooza this summer, as the Bud Light stage closer on July 31. The tour kicks off Sept. 30 in Columbus and concludes Nov. 12 in Los Angeles, with 27 stops in the United States in Canada in all and currently with a single concert in each city.
