A 21-year-old male has died after suffering multiple gunshot wounds in Skokie early Tuesday, according to the Skokie Police Department.

Officers responded to a report of a person being shot at about 6:19 a.m. May 19 in the area of LaCrosse Avenue and Grove Street, according to a department news release.

Skokie police arrived on the scene and found the young male victim with multiple gunshot wounds.

He was taken by first responders via ambulance to a local hospital for medical treatment, but died from his injuries, police said.

According to Skokie Police Sergeant Brandi Shelton, a preliminary investigation into the incident indicates that there is no active threat to the public.

The investigation remains active and additional details will be provided as police continue to investigate.

The North Regional Violent Crimes Task Force (NORTAF) is being activated to assist the Skokie Police Department in their investigation, per the news release.

The Skokie Police Department declined to comment on whether a suspect is in custody in relation to the shooting.
