National Weather Service officials have issued a beach warning in effect through Saturday afternoon, warning of between 4- to 6-foot waves and currents at Lake Michigan beaches.
High waves and dangerous currents are expected at beaches in northern and central Cook Counties, officials warned. The conditions are expected to make swimming life-threatening for inexperienced swimmers.
Officials cautioned to remain out of the water and said swimmers should not venture out onto piers, jetties, break walls or other shoreline structures.
Current morning conditions at O’Hare International Airport are a few clouds at 49 degrees. Farther south at Midway Airport, conditions are the same at 51 degrees.
Thursday’s temperatures are expected to reach the mid 50s and eventually reach the low 60s on Saturday, officials said.
