There’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to celebrate La Grange Park on Friday, and the village plans to deliver.

La Grange Park, ZIP code 60526, will celebrate its Zone Improvement Plan code on Friday, 6/05/26. It’s part of a growing tradition in the Midwest where villages and neighborhoods use the date that corresponds to their mail code to take pride in their communities.

“We’re looking forward to celebrating 60526 Day on Friday,” said Maggie Jarr, assistant village manager and principal organizer of the event. “June 5 is a community-wide event that highlights La Grange Park pride, identity and connection. We hope people use the occasion to connect with neighbors and friends, visit our local parks and library, support local businesses, and celebrate what makes La Grange Park such a special place.”

Frankfort and Flossmoor are Illinois towns that have celebrated the day in recent years; Colchester is planning a ZIP Code day later this month.

ZIP Code Day has even been celebrated in areas of Chicago such as the Willis Tower and the Merchandise Mart, which each have their own ZIP Codes.

The Community Park District of La Grange Park is heavily involved in the project.

“It’s one of the most unique opportunities to have a community event,” said Jessica Cannaday, park district executive director. “It’s going to be so cool. There is a ton going on that day. We’ve got a 2.6 mile hike starting at Community Fitness at 7 a.m.”

Cannaday said that the Park District started a gardening club this year, which will convene at 10 a.m. at Memorial Park.

The Garden Club Gathering, will have residents planting native flowers and learn from director of parks Sara Earhart what grows best in the area.

After learning about native plants, the Park District will conduct a Parks Passport Tour, where residents can visit every park, collect stamps and meet neighbors. After visitors have completed their passport, they can visit the Districts Recreation Center to claim a prize.

Other events include a resident-led litter cleanup of local Forest Preserves and an educational tree walk starting at Village Hall featuring Public Works employees teaching how to identify various types of trees using bark, leaves and twigs.

The La Grange Area Historical Society will take visitors on a “Walk Through Time” focusing on La Grange Park history from the 1890s to the 1970s.

Businesses are getting involved too, through a Shop Local and Score Sweepstakes along 31st Street. Between June 5 and 21, participating businesses will offer chances to win prizes. The sweepstakes also will be offered at the Village Market on La Grange Road.

The La Grange Park Library will have activities, including a community digital cookbook, where residents are encouraged to send in favorite recipes.

“I think it’s going to be kind of fun,” library Executive Director Gabe Oppenheim said. “Later on in the day we are going to have a book exchange in conjunction with the Forest Preserve District.”

The day’s activities will wrap up with a talent show from 5 to 8 pm. in Memorial Park.
