A 30-year-old man was fatally wounded overnight in a double shooting in the city’s River North neighborhood, Chicago police said.

About 3:20 a.m., the victim and a 65-year-old man were standing outside in the 500 block of North State Street when they heard shots and felt pain. The younger man was struck multiple times to his body and was taken in critical condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where he was later pronounced dead, police said.

The older man suffered two wounds to a foot, and was taken to the same hospital where he was listed in fair condition, police said.

Detectives are investigating the circumstances leading up to the fatal shooting.
