
NAPERVILLE RESPONDS HOSTING RUCK MARCH, PARTY
Naperville Responds for Veterans will be celebrating the nation’s 250th birthday with a 4-mile Freedom Ruck March and Birthday Bash Block Party.
Registration and check-in starts at 7 a.m. Saturday, July 4 at the Riverwalk Grand Pavilion, 912 Honorary Sindt Memorial Court.
The Ruck March will start at 8 a.m. Ruck packs are not required, and all community members are welcome to join the walk and celebration, organizers said.
Participants will receive a swag bag and patch, and T-shirts will be available to buy.
After the march, the Birthday Bash Block Party, featuring food, drinks and family-friendly activities, will take place at the Judd Kendall VFW, 908 Jackson Ave.
Naperville Responds for Veterans helps provide services to veterans in need and those in crisis. The nonprofit group helps vets and their families, especially those with low and moderate incomes, with needed home repair services within a 20-mile radius of Naperville.

WILL COUNTY DOG PARK PERMITS, MERCH DISCOUNTED
Dog park permits will be on sale for half price starting this week for the Forest Preserve District of Will County’s six dog parks, including one at Whalon Lake in Naperville.
The parks offer fenced areas for dogs to play without a leash. A permit is required to enter the parks and can be bought online, via mail or at local visitor centers, such as those at Hidden Oaks Nature Center in Bolingbrook or Isle a la Cache Museum in Romeoville.
The discounted permit fees as of this week are $20 for county residents and $40 for nonresidents. A $2 service fee will be charged for online permit sales.
Owners can buy a dog park permit for up to three dogs when current rabies tag numbers and expiration dates are provided. Dogs must be at least six months old to use the parks.

Discounts are also being offered on forest preserve merchandise through Monday, July 6, by using the promotion code 1776, which offers the shopper a 17.76% discount. Nature-themed clothes are available at the district’s online shop, www.outsiderthreads.com.

SEN. ELLMAN SPONSORING SCHOOL SUPPLY DRIVE
State Sen. Laura Ellman, D-Naperville, is holding a school supply drive throughout July to benefit the People’s Resource Center.
Local residents can drop off supplies at Ellman’s district office, 24W500 Maple Ave., Suite 215, Naperville.
Other drop-off locations include the Helen Plum Library, 411 S. Main St., Sunset Knoll Recreation Center, 820 Finley Road and the Madison Meadow Recreation Center, 500 E. Wilson Ave., all in Lombard.
Requested items include backpacks, notebooks, pencils, pens, highlighters, colored pencils, markers, two-pocket folders, glue, erasers and index cards. The classroom essentials will help support local students and families for the start of the upcoming school year, her office said.
