A Country Club Hills man charged in the killing of his mother’s boyfriend was ordered held in custody by a judge, and a shooting in Chicago Heights last week was ruled a homicide by the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Country Club Hills

Antonio Williams, 50, was shot and killed Saturday in Country Club Hills, police said in a statement.

Officers responded to the 3800 block of 167th Place at about 2 a.m. Saturday, police said. When officers knocked on the door, Gahmari Triplett, 21, began shooting at police out of the home’s window, police said.

Police surrounded the house and ordered the people inside to come outside, which they did, and Triplett was taken into custody, police said. Once officers entered the home, they found Williams, who had been shot in the chest.

Williams was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronouned dead, police said. Williams was the live-in boyfriend of Triplett’s mother, according to police.

The Cook County state’s attorney’s office approved murder charges against Triplett Sunday, police said, including multiple charges of attempted murder for shooting at the officers.

Triplett had an initial hearing Monday at the Markham Courthouse, where Cook County Judge Luciano Panici ordered him held in custody pending trial. Triplett’s next court date is July 29.

Chicago Heights

Cesar G. Ruiz, 39, was shot and killed last week in Chicago Heights, the medical examiner’s office said. Ruiz, a Chicago Heights resident, was killed on the 100 block of East 25th Street from a gunshot wound to the chest, according to the office. He was pronounced dead at 4:25 a.m. July 7.

The Chicago Heights Police Department did not respond Monday morning to a request for comment.
