A 60-year-old Steger woman was arrested in connection with a crash in Crete on Tuesday night that left a bicyclist dead, Crete police said in a news release.
The woman was being held in the Will County jail Thursday, with police saying she was charged with aggravated driving under the influence resulting in death and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in injury or death.
The woman appeared in court Thursday afternoon and was ordered released from custody. The Will County state’s attorney’s office said it is working with Crete police on the investigation, and formal charges have not been filed.
Crete officers responded at 10:56 p.m. Tuesday to the 900 block of Main Street to a report of an accident involving a car and a bicycle, police said.
Officers found a severely injured person lying in the middle of the roadway, police said. Police have not released the name of the deceased, pending notification of next of kin.
Officers used witness accounts and information from the Flock camera system to trace the car’s license plate to an address in Steger, where they found the car with heavy damage to its front end and windshield, police said.
