The wait is over. Since chefs John Shields and Karen Urie Shields announced their return to Chicago back in June 2015, fans of the husband-wife duo — who met cooking at Charlie Trotter’s and went on to run acclaimed destination restaurant Town House in the tiny town of Chilhowie, Va. — have been eager to rush the doors of their new concept. Actually, two concepts: Smyth, a tasting-menu spot upstairs at 177 N. Ada St., and more casual downstairs counterpart The Loyalist. We’re now halfway there: The Loyalist opened Saturday, July 30. The couple let us in to check out the space and snap some photographs. Here, get the first look of the restaurant and food, including a killer burger.
