Am I the only taxpayer who is incensed by the 50 percent discount on overdue traffic tickets being given to scofflaws? The newspaper, radio and TV editorials all praise it as a wonderful idea and tell us almost daily how much money is being collected.

Why can`t the entire amount be collected, plus penalties for being overdue? Is our city government telling us that it is incapable of enforcing laws and collecting money that is due? Why haven`t these people been summoned to Traffic Court with the threat of having their licenses suspended if they fail to do so?

I feel like a fool paying my taxes in full and on time to a government that is so feeble. I also suspect that somewhere down the line this is going to cost me money–that I am going to be paying higher taxes because for some reason it`s my fault.
