In preparation for the biggest moving weekend of the year, Ald. David Orr (49th) and the Metropolitan Tenants Organization Thursday held a press conference to help educate renters about a tenants-rights ordinance that took effect in November. The largest changes in the ordinance are provisions that allow tenants with landlords who refuse to make repairs to do the work themselves and deduct the cost from their rent, or to withhold a portion of their rent if their landlord does not provide so called ”essential services” such as heat and hot water.
