Portec Inc. said David H. Abbott, its president and chief operating officer since 1981, resigned both posts effective June 30. The Oak Brook-based company gave no reason for Abbott`s departure, but said Thomas J. Guendel, its chairman and chief executive officer, will assume Abbott`s responsibilities. Portec omitted its dividend in February after posting a loss from continuing operations of $1.5 million last year.
