A West Side man was charged with attempted murder Wednesday for allegedly pouring rubbing alcohol on his 12-year-old son and setting the boy on fire, police said. Antonio Ramirez, 51, of 1834 S. Throop St., poured the alcohol on his son, Dimas, in the family home at 8 p.m. Tuesday and then ignited the boy to discipline him, Sgt. Barbara Matula said. Ramirez earlier had beaten the boy with a chain, Matula said. The boy was listed in fair condition Wednesday in the Cook County Hospital burn unit with burns covering 10 percent of his body. Officer Kevin Ford, who went to the home after neighbors reported hearing screams, said he found the elder Ramirez sitting in a chair in the kitchen ”like nothing had happened.” The boy was in the bathroom pouring water on his burns, Ford said.
