Wrigleyville community leaders Friday expressed anger at remarks by Mayor Harold Washington that the possibility of regular-season night games at Wrigley Field ”seems within the realm of fairness.” ”We feel this is a slap in the face to our community,” said Wayne Krauss, president of the Lakeview Citizens Council. ”We feel his position is premature and shows insensitivity to the process we are going through.” Krauss` organization is participating in a study of the lights-at-Wrigley issue being conducted by neighborhood residents, the Chicago Cubs and city officials. Washington`s comments came after the legislature passed a measure allowing post-season night games at Wrigley with temporary lights. Washington said he sensed a growing sentiment for allowing lights in the community around the park. Asked about the possibility of 18 night games during the season, which Cubs owners have requested, the mayor replied, ”That seems within the realm of fairness.”

Krauss said Washington seemed prepared to ”force night baseball down our throats.”
