A special committee including representatives of legal and civic groups will be appointed to interview candidates for openings on the Chicago Board of Election Commissioners, a Cook County Circuit Court spokesman announced Tuesday. The first position will open when board Chairman Michael Lavelle`s term expires Dec. 6. Members of the panel will be appointed by Chief Judge Harry G. Comerford of Cook County Circuit Court, said William Juneau, Comerford`s spokesman. The committee will make recommendations to the five-judge Judicial Nominating Committee, which will recommend a nominee to be voted on by all full county judges, Juneau said. Lavelle, 49, has served on the board since 1978. ”He hasn`t submitted an application yet,” a spokesman for Lavelle said. ”It`s not known if he will or will not.” Applications for Lavelle`s post are due Sept. 15, and about 25 applications have been received, Juneau said.
