A leading Spanish bank, Banco de Bilbao, abandoned a hostile bid to acquire its rival Banco Espanol de Credito (Banesto) and form Spain`s biggest banking group. Banco de Bilbao said it decided to give up the effort after receiving a negative ruling from the Madrid stock market.
