Labor Day will be observed nationwide on Monday. It is both a state and a federal holiday. The following public services are affected:
– Schools: Suburban schools that have begun classes will be closed; Chicago public school classes begin Sept. 6.
– Government offices: Federal, state and city offices closed, except for police, fire and some streets and sanitation services.
– Postal service: No mail delivery, except for express and special delivery.
– Courts: County courts closed, except for Holiday Court; federal courts closed.
– Banks, S&Ls: Closed.
– Financial markets: Stock and commodity exchanges closed.
– Parking: Parking meter regulations not in force.
– Transit: Limited holiday service for Pace, Metra and CTA trains and buses.
