A jury convicted a Chicago man Friday of fatally shooting a man who was flirting with his girlfriend over text messages.

Lamont “Ski” Turentine, 32, of Chicago, was on trial in Tyran Bolling’s Dec. 13, 2019 shooting death in front of a home on the 4400 block of Henry Avenue in Hammond.

He was convicted of murder and a gun enhancement. His sentencing hearing is June 25.

Defense lawyer Lakeisha Murdaugh could not be immediately reached after the verdict.

Police traced street nicknames “Ski” and “Money” to Turentine and his then-girlfriend Emani Edwards.

Hammond Det. Steve Guernsey testified Friday that a message after the shooting stated Bolling and his own girlfriend were “fighting” and he was talking to “another chick” — i.e. Edwards.

Hammond Police were called to the crime scene at 12:13 a.m. where they found Bolling lying on the ground in front of a house. He had been shot “multiple times” in the leg, chest and face.

Police learned Bolling was allegedly involved with a woman nicknamed “Money” and was “good friends” with her boyfriend “Ski,” according to the affidavit.

Cell phone records and Facebook messages appeared to show Turentine and Edwards headed to Arkansas, then New Orleans after the shooting.

They were arrested a couple years after Bolling’s death. She was later granted immunity and testified this week.
