Gov. James Thompson on Tuesday appointed Jim Bray, his chief
speechwriter, as his new press secretary, replacing David Fields, who will resign effective Feb. 28 to pursue private interests. A former reporter with newspapers in St. Louis, Champaign and Arlington Heights, Bray, 37, has been a spokesman and speechwriter for Thompson since 1985. ”His abilities as a problem-solver and decision-maker, his ability to work with people and political acumen are talents that will significantly contribute to the administration,” Thompson said.
