Orland Park officials plan to ask the Illinois Department of

Transportation to approve and finance construction of a heliport in the village.

”We need to keep up with the times,” said Mayor Fred Owens. ”Fast travel is essential for executives and a heliport is what they will be looking for when they consider Orland as a site for corporate headquarters.”

The mayor also noted that a heliport would be used to transport emergency medical patients to hospitals.

At Monday`s Village Board meeting, trustees told staff members to meet with state officials about a heliport and start searching for potential sites. Trustee Ed Schussler has suggested a heliport be built next to the commuter train station under construction at 153rd Street near 105th Avenue.
