Top-ranked Mother McAuley remained unbeaten Tuesday, but its performance didn`t impress coach Diane Darrah.
”We were coming off a two-week layoff, and it showed,” she said after watching her Mighty Macs (6-0, 3-0) record a 68-35 victory over Mt. Assisi in a Girls Catholic Athletic Conference South Division matchup.
”We were very sloppy in the first half,” Darrah said, although her team led 29-16 at the half. ”We were a little better in the second half.”
Sarah Benner (15 points, 14 rebounds), Norine Nolan (14 points, seven rebounds) and Megan Lucid (10 points, 15 rebounds, four assists) led McAuley. Jenny Sullivan had 21 points, six rebounds, five assists and five steals for Mt. Assisi.
– Lincoln Park 72, Von Steuben 17-Tina Johnson scored 31 points and Barbara Merriweather 14 as Lincoln Park (5-0, 5-0) romped in the Red-North.
– Young 89, Orr 17-Eywanaha Miller had 16, Keyia Mandeldove 15, Kelly Bond 12 and Shamona Keel 11 for Whitney Young (2-6, 1-0) in the Red-West.
c8 Kelly 29, Metro 21-Alma Almanza had 13 points for Kelly (1-5, 1-3) in the Blue-Central.
– Steinmetz 39, Prosser 30-India Dennis had 18 points and Dede Brown 10 to lift Steinmetz (3-2, 3-1) in the Blue-North.
– Clemente 45, Juarez 40-Annette Brandy had 23 points and Rhonda Garrett 14 as Clemente rolled in the Blue-West. Emily Barrera had 13 for Juarez.
– St. Benedict 53, St. Gregory 49-Carolina Reyes scored 20 points and St. Benedict (6-4, 3-0) rallied from a 27-24 halftime deficit to stay unbeaten in the Chicagoland Prep. Juanita Zhanay`s 21 led St. Gregory.
– Mother Guerin 75, Notre Dame 43-Jenny Flynn (21 points, seven assists) and Marie Grassini (21 points, 15 rebounds) paced Mother Guerin (4-5, 3-3) in the GCAC Central.
– Madonna 66, Lourdes 45-Sonya Malinowski, Kathy Arriaga (21 points each) and Kristy Sandoval (15 points, seven assists) sparked Madonna (5-4) in the GCAC crossover. Wendy Mynarcyzk had 16 for Lourdes (1-6).
– Academy of Sacred Heart 56, Willows 46-Darlah Wiatr had 27 points, 12 rebounds and nine steals and her twin sister Lilah had 18 points, nine rebounds and six steals to lift Sacred Heart (4-2). Cindi Czarnik had 16 for Willows.
– Wheeling 49, Buffalo Grove 40-Wheeling (7-6, 2-1) iced the Mid-Suburban North victory by hitting 14 straight free throws in the fourth quarter. Chris Neri (15 points) and Kim Anderson (14) scored in double figures.
