Leyden Community Hospital in Northlake will remain closed unless its owners correct serious electrical problems within the next week, village officials said Friday.

Village Manager Rocco Biscaglio said Churchill, Sterling & Stewart, the private investment firm that owns Leyden, has agreed to make the corrections that forced the closure of the hospital Dec. 12 after a generator failed. Biscaglio said the building code violations, which include circuit boxes that were overloaded or not operating at all, posed a fire hazard.

Conditions at the hospital are also being reviewed by the Illinois Department of Public Health, which took steps two years ago to revoke the hospital`s license. The state agency later reached a settlement with the hospital.
