The campaign coffers of former Du Page County Board Chairman Jack Knuepfer show a $632 fund balance and a debt of $36,000, according to documents filed with the state last week.
The candidates who ran for board chairman last year spent about $700,000 in all on what is believed to be the most costly countywide campaign ever in Du Page. Knuepfer spent nearly $250,000 in his bid for renomination.
Knuepfer is in debt to himself and to former County Comptroller Kenneth Lahner for loans of $6,000 and $30,000, respectively.
