– Three Illinois players-Chicago Vocational`s Juwan Howard, Gordon Tech`s Tom Kleinschmidt and Peoria Manual`s Howard Nathan-were named to the 40-member Parade High School All-America Basketball team.

– Pittsburgh basketball coach Paul Evans regarding former King guard, and current Pitt freshman, Ahmed Shareef: ”He`s doing real well. He`s doing good in the classroom. He`s getting a lot of quality minutes, he even started a couple games for us recently. That`s important because we have a veteran backcourt and I`m looking for him to start next year. So it`s working out well. He`s also one of the nicest kids I`ve ever met. He`s just a phenomenal kid.”
