Molex Inc., the Lisle-based company that sells electronics around the world, said third-quarter net earnings declined 12 percent, to $14.7 million, or 30 cents a share, from $16.6 million, or 34 cents a share, a year earlier. Sales in the fiscal quarter ended March 31 surged 21 percent, to a record $176.8 million, from $146 million a year earlier.

The company noted that the year-earlier results included a gain of $2.5 million, or 5 cents a share, from the sale of two facilities in Molex`s expansion program. Without that gain, earnings would have been nearly flat.

For the first nine months, net income rose 4 percent, to $47.4 million, or 95 cents a share, from $45.6 million, or 91 cents, a year earlier. Revenue rose 20 percent, to $521 million from $435.5 million.

Currency effects contributed $9.1 million and $1.2 million to net revenue and net income, respectively, for the latest quarter, Molex said. The effect for the nine-month period was to increase revenue $22.8 million and net income $2.9 million.
