Winfield officials are considering a proposal to increase fees for garbage and recycling pickup, after hearing a plea from the Winfield Disposal Co. that it would not meet its expenses under the contracted rate of $1.11 per bag, beginning Wednesday.
Robert Price of Winfield Disposal proposed three options last week to the Village Board: a monthly $2 recycling fee per household, a fee increase to $1.50 per bag or a monthly $1.70 recycling fee and a $1.30-per-bag fee.
But Trustee John Grothman argued that the company intentionally bid the contract low and that he was opposed to charging anything for recycling. He said the village may rebid the entire contract.
The Village Board will review the proposal again in May.
