Lisa Davidson
St. Ignatius College Prep
Parents: Paul and Barbara Davidson. Davidson was one of five teenagers chosen out of more than 1,500 candidates to be a weekly youth movie critic last year for the Chicago Tribune. A straight-A student, she is a Merit scholar finalist, ranks third in a class of 291 and volunteered as a tutor at the Cambodian Refugee Center in Chicago`s Uptown area, and served as editor of the school newspaper for two years. Davidson plans to enroll at Georgetown Univeristy, majoring in English.
Maria Garcia
Curie High School
Parents: Anastacio and Maria Garcia. Garcia ranks second in a class of 720 and will major in premedicine at De Paul University. She is president of the Chemistry Club, is a Key Club board member, works part time in a bank and is a member of the National Honor Society, Academic Decathlon Team, Student Council and Graphic Arts Craftsmen Club, participated in the Freshmen Buddy Program and placed third in geometry at district academic Olympics
competition.
Martin Hoesley
Bogan High School
Parents: John and Jeanne Hoesley. Hoesley scored a near-perfect 35 on the ACT. Ranks first in a class of 500 and is National Honor Society president. He is a Presidential scholar semifinalist, plays trombone in the concert and jazz bands, was a first-place winner in a state math contest, finished first in English in JETS district competition and expects to attend the University of Illinois, majoring in premedicine.
LaToyla Jones
King High School
Parent: Earline Jones. Jones ranks first in a class of 143, is National Honor Society president and has perfect attendance in high school. She received a leadership award from Operation PUSH, placed second in the Principal Scholars Program Science Competition, was a role model for elementary school pupils in a drug awareness program, tutored grade school children, cared for her pastor`s 85-year-old mother-in-law and plans to major in nursing at Lewis University.
Nick Mataragas
Marist High School
Parents: Bob and Magdalene Mataragas. A straight-A student, Mataragas is a Merit scholar finalist and ranks first in a class of 372. He is Math Team captain, Science Club president, assistant editor of the school newspaper and literary magazine, Latin Club secretary, a first-place winner in geometry and eight-person team events in regional math competition and will enroll at Northwestern University and major in premedicine.
Patrick McNulty
Mt. Carmel High School
Parents: Patrick and Christine McNulty. McNulty ranks fifth in a class of 215 and was a finalist in the Chicago Metro History Fair. He is yearbook editor, co-director of Operation Snowflake, which helps students combat peer pressure to use drugs and alcohol, tutored children at a shelter for battered women, is a History Olympiad winner and is a member of Pi Sigma Pi, a history honor society.
Kai Ng
Lane Tech High School
Parent: Bick Ling Ng. Ng ranks third among 791 students in the largest senior class of any Illinois high school. She is a Presidential scholar semifinalist, president of the school`s Amnesty International chapter, is first vice president of the Student Council, is captain of the Academic Decathlon Team and was treasurer of the Irish Club and Third World Society. Ng will make medical research her major when she enrolls at the University of Chicago.
Christopher Perez

Parents: Eddie and Anna Perez. Perez is editor of the school newspaper, ranks first in a class of 224 and is a National Hispanic scholar semifinalist. He is captain of the Academic Team, assistant editor of the yearbook, a Bausch and Lomb Science Award winner, received the Chicago Medical Society Science Achievement Award and expects to major in American history or biology at Loyola University.
Georgette Reynolds
Hyde Park Career Academy
Parent: George Reynolds. Reynolds ranks first in a class of 392 and plans to enroll at Northwestern University, majoring in business and English. She is studying calculus and humanities at the University of Chicago and Spanish at Roosevelt University, has perfect attendance in high school, is in the Presidential scholars program, teaches Sunday School and tutors children.
Patricia Rosales
Maria High School
Parents: Guillermo and Silvina Rosales. Rosales expects to attend Massachusetts Institute of Technology and major in chemical and environmental engineering. She ranks first in a class of 210, is Student Council president, helped establish a recycling program at her high school, was a National Language Olympiad medalist and is a Bausch and Lomb Award winner.
Rosa Sanchez
St. Scholastica High School
Parents: Eduardo and Dominga Sanchez. Sanchez ranks first in a class of 91 and will enroll at Carleton College and major in chemistry. She worked last summer in a microbiology and immunology laboratory in the Northwestern University Research Opportunity Program, volunteers at a shelter for battered women, is a Bausch and Lomb Award winner and a member of the National Honor Society.
Roxana Serrano
Bowen High School
Parents: Frank and Gloria Serrano. Serrano is a straight-A student and valedictorian in a class of 289. She placed first in mathematics in JETS competition, has been a fund raiser for LaRabida Hospital and Kiwanis Peanut Day, is a National Honor Society member, is on the Academic Decathlon, Math and Tennis Teams and will major in bioengineering at the University of Illinois.
Alison Siegler
University of Chicago Lab School
Parents: Mark and Anna Siegler. Siegler last year was one of 50 high school students in the country to win an $1,800 grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities, researching and writing a 60-page paper on the conflict between First Amendment rights and community opinions in two Art Institute of Chicago controversies. She is a Merit scholar finalist, tutors pupils at Reavis Elementary School, is a Brown University Book Award winner and expects to major in English at Yale University.
Bruce Williams
Lincoln Park High School
Parents: Henry and Maria Williams. Williams is enrolled in the school`s International Baccalaureate Program taught in 59 countries with rigorous academic standards. He ranks seventh in a class of 185, completed the Illinois Institute of Technology Modeling in Science Program and the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory Science and Engineering Program, is co-captain of the track team, winner of a National Achievement Scholarship and will attend Northwestern University, majoring in chemical engineering.
Rachel Zemans
Kenwood Academy
Parents: Joel and Frances Zemans. Zemans ranks first in a class of 375, has taken courses in theoretical mathematics and statistics at the University of Chicago and has sung in the Chicago Children`s Choir for nine years. She is captain of the tennis team, Chicago Public League doubles champion in the sport, spent last summer in the Spanish Heritage Summer Study Program in Madrid and received the school`s chemistry award for outstanding achievement.
