We all know Oprah Winfrey is bigger than life in this country. Increasingly apparent, however, is her international popularity.
She`s so popular in England that royal biographer Andrew Morton says that Diana, the Princess of Wales, just might be watching.
”Diana takes an interest in all kinds of social and welfare issues. She may well tune in if there is a show with a theme relevant to her interests,” says Morton.
Morton is known as one of Diana`s favorite reporters. He scooped Fleet Street with the news of the romance between Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson. ”Oprah is fiesty and direct,” Morton says. ”Her weight problem has endeared her to a nation obsessed by slimming.
”She has captured the popular imagination here.”
Winfrey`s talk show airs two or three times weekly in Britain. This season, it moved from evenings to a daytime slot during Britain`s prime viewing time.
A spokeswoman for King World, which syndicates the program, estimates that about 224,000 homes in Britain tune in to Oprah.
Perhaps one of them is a royal household.
