Coal companies fined: Coal companies that allegedly tampered with dust samples intended to protect miners from black lung disease are being fined a record $6.5 million, Labor Secretary Lynn Martin said. The penalties involve some 800 coal mines. Agents uncovered 4,700 alleged instances of tampering with dust samples.
