Local Commonwealth Edison Co. officials launched a campaign this week to make their plans clear after opponents of the utility`s proposal to install new high-tension power lines along the Illinois Prairie Path announced that the power company had rejected alternative routes.
”No conclusions have been reached as to the location of the lines,”
said William Hellman, Edison district superintendent. ”For some reason, this group of folks seems to have reached its own conclusion.”
An organization known as Friends of the Prairie Path circulated statements Wednesday and Thursday that Edison has announced it will use at least a portion of its right-of-way along the bicycle and nature trail to string the lines from a substation at Eola Road and the East-West Tollway to one planned for Butterfield and Orchard Roads in Wheaton.
Officials from Du Page County, which owns the path, Edison and the Forest Preserve District are studying seven possible routes for the lines.
Hellman said a meeting of the utility`s executives is scheduled Monday to decide which plan to pursue.
