Mark Bodane, who joined the Carol Stream Fire Protection District in 1986, has been named acting chief by the district`s board of trustees. The village is seeking to appoint a permanent replacement for Chief Theodore Tokarski, who will retire Thursday after 15 years of service.

Bodane, who joined the district as director of the fire prevention bureau, was appointed assistant chief three years ago. He and 50 other candidates have applied to become chief. A search committee is evaluating resumes.
