The Tribune did a disservice to all smaller branch banks by printing the July 3 article ”Golden times for bank robbers.” I, along with my co-workers of a small suburban bank, did not understand why this article demanded front- page attention.
A bank robber needs only to glance at the secondary headline, ”Suburban branches proving convenient for criminals,” to get the wrong message. Pointing out things like robbing a bank near an expressway to make a quick getaway or that some smaller suburban branches have little or no security was unnecessary. The article pointed out areas that have been robbed most recently and would make the best target.
With all the problems banks are currently having, they don`t need a front-page article pinpointing which banks are the easiest to rob. With bank robberies on the rise, what is needed is an article to deter robbers.
