Barbara Masekela, one of two women elected to the key policy-making body of the African National Congress in South Africa says, ”It`s about time there are some women in positions of power.” She and Cheryl Carolus, both former teachers, are the only women on the 26-member National Working Group announced this month and dubbed a ”shadow cabinet” because its members are thought to be in line for top goverment positions should the ANC come to power. In their new posts, Masekela-who returned last year from exile in Zambia-will evalute ANC day-to-day operations and Carolus will set policy for the organization`s social welfare, health, education and human resources departments. The ANC is the largest black-liberation group in South Africa.
