Health-care costs up: Health-care benefit costs for midsize companies in Illinois jumped 17.7 percent over the past year, according to a survey by Grant Thornton, a management-consulting firm. Nationally, the jump was 18.3 percent. Illinois respondents spent an average of 9.1 percent of payroll costs on medical insurance, compared with 7.8 percent nationally.
