Hoffman Estates had too much of both offense and defense for visiting Elgin St. Edward during a 5-0 wipeout Tuesday.
The victory improved the Hawks to 5-1 for the season as they prepare for the rugged Mid-Suburban League South Division campaign, which opens next week. ”We can put the ball in the net,” said Hoffman Estates coach Angelo Testone. ”The only game we didn`t score was in our loss to Fremd. We score about five or six goals a game. We had seven against Streamwood and Niles West. So far we haven`t given up a whole lot of goals.”
Goaltenders Paul Rogers and Jay Dellman shared the shutout, Dellman going in the second half.
Fremd 2, Horlick (Wis.) 0-Rob Klancnik and Marcus Pope scored as second-ranked Fremd improved to 6-1 with the non-conference victory.
Waterman 2, Illinois Math and Science 1-Bobby Bogle connected on a penalty kick for Waterman (2-2-1).
Glenbard West 3, Downers North 2-Glenbard West overcame a 2-0 deficit on fourth-quarter goals by Mike Mongolis, Brian Glibkowski and Shawn Carolan in the West Suburban Silver.
Libertyville 2, Antioch 1-Adrian Mihalic scored both goals, including the game-winner late in the first half as top-ranked Libertyville (6-0-2, 1-0)
rolled in the North Suburban. ”It was a pretty physical game,” said Libertyville coach Andy Bitta. ”They played us really well; we played okay. We still have to be more offensive in the midfield and get our forwards more involved. Other than that, we`re really playing well.”
Conant 5, Palatine 2-Alan Stoltman scored three goals and Chris Schrubbe and Jim Joerger one each to lift unbeaten Conant to its fifth straight victory in the Mid-Suburban League crossover.
Naperville North 3, Downers South 0-Dean Holden had two goals and Brady Brosnahan one to back the shutout goaltending of Steve Hipp (11 saves) for Naperville North (4-2-1) in the non-conference match.
