A young man accused of choking his girlfriend and threatening her with a knife was arrested on charges of aggravated assault and domestic battery early Saturday, according to Elgin police. Derf R. Reed, 18, 6457 S. Langley Ave., Chicago, faces a Nov. 22 hearing in Kane County Circuit Court on the charges. Reed allegedly threatened his 17-year-old girlfriend, an Elgin resident, with a knife and choked her during an argument at a home in the 600 block of Villa Street, police said.
