A 16-year-old Aurora boy was listed in fair condition Thursday at Copley Memorial Hospital after being shot Tuesday afternoon on a street.

Mario Andres Vasquez was shot once in the abdomen and once in the left shoulder, police said.

A witness told police that Vasquez was an innocent victim caught in the spray of gunfire from rival gang members. The witness said that a young man using a telephone was flashing gang signs at several rival gang members in a passing car, and that several men in the car returned the gesture. The youth on the telephone then pulled out a handgun and fired several shots at the car, striking Vasquez across the street.
