With five conference games remaining, Marian Central coach Kevin Dix isn`t about to claim the Northwest Suburban Conference title is in the hands of his Hurricanes yet.
”We`ve got a ways to go before we or anybody else can claim anything,”
Dix said after Marian Central routed visiting Wauconda 75-56 Tuesday night in Woodstock. ”I did think we played pretty well tonight, though.”
The Hurricanes (15-3 overall) remained unbeaten in 10 Northwest Suburban outings after posting their fifth consecutive victory. Chris Hyland (18 points, nine rebounds), John Buch (career-high 17 points off the bench) and Mark Stilling (10 points, six rebounds off the bench) led the assault.
There were no double-figure scorers for Wauconda, which fell to 4-12 overall and 1-9 in the league.
Marian had the issue settled early while steaming to a 20-8 first-quarter advantage and widened the margin to 42-16 at the half. ”They outscored us in the second half, but the first half told the story,” said Dix.
Dix was impressed with the way his Hurricanes played defense in the first half. ”Sometimes we do play good, tight defense,” he said.
