It is possible that residents could have their yard brush chipped by the village, if a pilot program doesn`t get chopped during the budget review process.

When trustees heard in January that it would cost about $64,000 to pick up and chop brush throughout the village twice a year, they agreed that it wouldn`t be cost-effective.

But at the request of Trustee Gail Giacalone, the village looked into how other towns provide brush-chipping service.

Public Works Director Fred Vogt found that the initial cost of $64,000 probably would taper off to $20,000 to $30,000 after the program started.

Although trustees still were reluctant to spend money on chipping during these lean economic times, they agreed to consider a possible pilot program when they look at the proposed 1992-93 budget, which is expected to be ready in March.
