Our Mother Earth is in serious trouble. Pollution, ozone depletion, forest destruction, water contamination and global warming trends threaten life, transcending national boundaries. No nation can solve such problems by itself.

Recognizing this, the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development, to be held in Rio de Janeiro in June, provides an opportunity for nations to come together to cooperate in solving these enormous problems. More than 100 heads of state and 25,000 officials and representatives of governments and non-governmental organizations are expected to attend.

President Bush has not indicated his intention to attend. We should write to him and to our congressmen expressing our views on the importance of this first-ever ”Earth Summit” and of our country`s participation.

Efforts to restore and protect the environment for the enhancement of life on Earth must not fail.
