Armco Steel Co. said it would permanently shut down a hot-strip rolling mill and associated units at its Ashland Works Plant in Ashland, Ky., by the end of July. About 700 of the plant`s 3,650 workers will be laid off. The mill`s work will be performed at Armco`s hot-strip mill in Middletown, Ohio, which last year completed a $115 million modernization. The Middletown plant won`t likely hire new workers to do the work, a spokesman said.
