The Michigan Department of Labor, ruling in a dispute between the Tigers and a bat boy, has decided that the team violated state child-labor laws.
The state didn`t fine or penalize the Tigers. It ordered them to obtain work permits for teenagers and have them use time cards, Yvonne Clark, the department`s Detroit supervisor, said Tuesday.
State officials started investigating after former bat boy Dave Bondy, 17, of Wayne, filed a complaint alleging the team was keeping him at Tiger Stadium as late as 2 a.m. on some school nights. The probe was hampered because bat boys never used time cards.
