The Oatman Chamber of Commerce wants to discuss Jon Margolis` terrible article on Route 66. This town he referred to as a dump and tourist trap is far from it.

True, this town of 140 people has a setting in an old gold-mining town in the Black Hills of Arizona, which may not be to the liking of a city snob, but it is no dump. There are more than 250,000 people a year that come to visit us. Your non-animal lover was sure to resent the herd of our 13 wild burros that are roaming the street and making their home here.

If this person had in fact checked the prices in our gift shops, he would have found them far more reasonable than any other place. And heaven forbid he would eat in this dump, which is his loss, for we have four nice places to dine.

We have many people from your area, and we are glad they enjoy our town. But by your rude article, we are sure there will be many who will not visit, even if the people from your area tell us that word of mouth is far greater than your little paper.

It`s still too bad that Jon Margolis can`t see the world with open eyes, but he probably finds his narrow mind safe in his little world.
