Wang Hongwen, one of the infamous Gang of Four that led the Chinese Cultural Revolution, has died, the official Xinhua News Agency reported Tuesday. He was 58.
Wang, a textile mill worker who rose to become Communist Party vice chairman then was sentenced to life in prison after the Gang fell, died Monday of an unspecified liver ailment, according to the brief Xinhua report.
The report said Wang was hospitalized in 1986, suggesting he never returned to prison.
