Regina Belle
Passion (Columbia) (STAR)(STAR)(STAR)
Easily one of the best vocalists around in any style, Regina Belle delves deeper into the pop-jazz arena for “Passion.” Adopting an even more sophisticated stance than on previous work, Belle, in association with a consortium of writers and producers led by Narada Michael Walden, create an airy atmosphere of lush romanticism. Why, it’s probably a safe bet even Kool Moe Dee wore a white tie and tails while recording his rap for “Tango In Paris.” In a purer vein, Belle hits her highest mark on the old torch song, “My Man,” performed against a spare arrangement of piano, bass and drums. Also included (and lower on the scale) is a duet with Peabo Bryson for the Oscar nominated “A Whole New World” from the film “Aladdin.”
