Body and Soul Grady Tate (Milestone) What a Wonderful World Clark Terry (Red Baron).

Two instrumentalists with a minor in voice, drummer Grady Tate and trumpeter Clark Terry also share a sense of life’s pleasures.

So it is not surprising that both do Louis Armstrong’s delightfully languid “What a Wonderful World” on these new releases. Terry’s CD is a tribute to Armstrong, and he only sings through part of it (from time to time doing his own raucously conversational scat).

Tate’s is, in some ways, a tribute to Al Jarreau, whose backgrounds and phrasing he borrows. Both these recordings are uncomplicated and yet delightful.
